Updating from Eric Cheng ~

Since having that new bike HASA Team 6.0D, it makes me like a young guy again these couple days. I'm not sure it will last for how long time..... Up to date, I have being tried to have more exercise every morning in order to pick up more riding experience and enhance my energy with this 52-year-old body.

6/29: The first day.....Just 12 km ride in the morning and another 6 km in the night time. From shih-lin to 圓山橋

6/30: I took the other route to Kwan-Du and rode it for more than one hour...it was 22 km.

7/1 : Today.....27.4 km round trip from shih-lin to Ming-Chuan bridge....this is a nice route.
Unfortunately.....I didn't see any good HER rider along the way yet. Still need to work hard for this mission with help from you.

Now, I am a little bit comfortable to join my first training problem with the team on coming Saturday...

2009/5/30 Stephen reports

Yesterday was a great day.
Several accidents happened:

1. Benson got jerkiness with his legs so he was put on a taxi with his bike home in Danshui.
2. Lindy’s bike got a tire punctured and fixed in Guandu
3. Lindy’s bike again got broken chain 20min later after the first fix. A nice truck driver took him to a nearest bike store for fix again.
4. Dick bought his new bike in Dadaocheng
5. Lindy and Stephen reached home at 4:30PM and completed the 80KM round trip between XinDian and Danshui.
Lesson we got today:
We should have sent Lindy’s bike and Benson home with taxi and we should be able to go home much earlier.

2009/6/13 Lindy reports

Dear 342 classmates

Here's the record for this past Saturday(0613).

Dick, Stephen and Lindy finished 104km on that day. Mainly from Hsin-tien to San-Chih(http://blog.xuite.net/tigerboy0320/blog/22887589).

1. Lindy had a small accident, crashing into by another biker, but didn't get hurt.

2. Dick didn't feel well midway through the trip, but recover enough to finish the long journey.

3. Stephen fallen from his bike the day before riding the bike home from his office and reinjury himself Saturday. So much accidents happens on that day.

4. If not for Stephen's companion, I don't think I am able to ride home.
My back and legs are still aching after 2 days.

老吳的獨白

Benson,

I started riding bicycle as exercise since last fall. Not like superman Stephen, Lindy, and Dick, my longest ride is only about 65 km. My goal is 100 km before the November Tour de Taiwan. J

Attached is a photo of the two bikes I own. Eric and I took a scenic ride when he visited Dallas last month. It was a beautiful day with perfect weather and temperature. Riding with friend is much more fun than riding alone.

I’ll be back to Taipei from 7/3 till t/18. I look forward to joining the 342 bike team group ride.

Brian的獨白

Matt, looks like it is payback time. I don't know about you. Every time I went back, they always threw me at least one good meal. Now it seems they want them back... ;-) I know, though, you can take on whatever challenge they would throw at you, let it be chowing or biking. Just don't ever give them a precedence.

Stephen, you are right on being concerned about my getting ready. I have yet to get my butt onto the bike as strenuously as you guys have. While I do do exercise regularly, that is only feather-light comparing to what you guys are doing. How many km's I'm already behind by now? Will definitely need to catch up. Don't want to finish the line 3 days later than everybody.

And, do I have it right that I need to get in shape for 4 hours of biking with the pace of 25-30 km/hr -- each day, for the whole 9 days? Well, surely I'm not quitting and actually I'm feeling kind-of proud of you (all and myself too), but... oh, my, my aching body!! What a crazy bunch of 50-yrs old!! In case you haven't realized, all our bodies are half century old already. If you don't know if you have ever overly abused your body, try to remember the time when it started -- someone among us passed around all those Playboys/Hustlers in the classroom... 8-P

Serious, though, is it appropriate to consider a fund raising for some good cause, and for our collective, nutty acts, esp. considering all the aches and sweat that we're putting through (or are going to)?

Please keep the updates coming, so that I can measure myself against the team's pace.
-Brian
Yes, I'm feeling my cold feet, but my heart is pumping hard for this. Go, mates, go!!
Just got done transferring stuff to a NetBook with Win7. That was what kept me quiet.

Dear 342 fellows,

Most of us were born in 1959 and we are now 50 years old. This is a major milestone of our life. Except Benson has proved that he is still young and alive, I guess we all need to do something to put a mark in this very special year of our life. Since not everyone of us can or want to have a new born baby while we are 50 (Liteh may but also too late for this year), I am proposing to something special together in this year. I had mentioned this last year when Larry was in Taiwan but never get any serious response from you guys.

We all had a lot of dreams when we were young. Most of the big dreams might not come true. As our body energy from now on will only decay rather than grow, let’s try to realize a small dream together. A small dream that none of us had ever done before and may get more and more difficult as our age grows.

Too bad we need a special license to ride motorbike over 500cc but we still have 2 legs.

No need to work out too much to prepare for it! No need to buy a new bike! No need to arrange all small details for the program. No need to search for hotels every night! There will be a coach to go with us so we even do not have to face any risk! All we need to do is firm up again as we were young and Just Do It!

I suggest we attend the Nov. 5-15 program as it is not too hot nor too cold in Taiwan. I specially hope that Wei-Liang, Matt, Larry and Brian will all come back to join. I also welcome if you have a better idea than this. Anyway, I do have a strong will to do something remarkable in this year and wish I can do it with my lifetime friends. Need your passion to support this.
